,cover reduced at right edge. Manuscript docket at back I. Bremberg W.S. Spr. April 12. Some history - Mexican Land Grant of Dr. Edward Bale, White Sulphur Springs was discovered in 1848 and a resort was opened in 1852, making this California’s oldest. Wealthy San Franciscans traveled here in the latter half of the 19th century by steamer across the Bay to Soscol Landing 4 miles south of Napa, and then by train and stage.

Since Nevada was formed from portion of Utah territory in early March of 1861, early postmarks still showed the U.T. Nevada Territory started March 2 1861 to statehood on Oct. 31 1864. Statehood was spurred by the Comstock Lode silver rush and the need to separate non-Mormon settlers from Utah Territory.
