April 24 Sacramento oval postmark (SAC-2480) with tall 12 1/2c rate handstamp on folded one page letter to General John Wilson Navy Agent San Francisco with docket at left reads - Politeness Mr. Thorndike, We hear it reported that Mess. Waid & Co. with whom we left our little sum of money have failed in business and that Mr. W. had attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself. Hutchings was known to have Claims at Weber Camp in 1848 or also known as Old Dry Diggings - then latter Hangtown then Placerville . Hutchingson also known for the famous Gold Rush letter sheets printed in Placerville. The Miners Ten Commandments.
